DGS Mencap

DGS Mencap supports over two hundred people with learning disabilities in North Kent and Medway. Many people with learning disabilities experience loneliness and a sense of isolation from wider society. DGS Mencap works hard to eliminate this therefore encouraging a fully inclusive community. The charity focuses on enabling people with learning disabilities to develop self fulfilment and independence.

To achieve this, DGS Mencap runs many services and projects. These includes residential care, independent living skills, training, employment, day services, a Community Access Project, drama, music, dance, exercise, leisure and even a nightclub! The charity has exciting volunteer opportunities ranging from helping at a fundraising event to befriending someone with a learning disability. Although an affiliation of National Mencap, DGS Mencap is an entirely separate entity and receives no funding from the national body. In fact many projects are funded entirely by the generosity of donations and grants.

The Aspinall Foundation
The Aspinall Foundation: Many animal species throughout the world are becoming increasingly rare and endangered through loss of natural habitat, poaching and pollution.

The Aspinall Foundation, a registered charity, in conjunction with Howletts and Port Lympne Wild Animal Parks in Kent , is devoted to the protection and breeding of these animals with the ultimate aim of returning them to protected areas in the wild.
These activities include the management of two gorilla rescue and rehabilitation projects in Congo and Gabon, Central Africa, where we have successfully reintroduced over fifty western lowland gorillas. Forty three of these are wild-born gorillas, orphans of the bush meat trade.
